The Axe Valley Runners (AVR) achieved great success across the south-west this weekend, from Cornwall to Devon.

Jeremy Slade and Tim Sibley took on the Cornish Marathon on Sunday, celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The challenging route offered stunning views of Bodmin Moor, looping from Pensilva to Golitha Falls and the famous Jamaica Inn.

Fortunately, the rain stayed away, allowing the runners to enjoy the autumn colours.

The event was well-organised, with participants receiving a medal, hoodie, and a delicious Cornish pasty.

Jeremy finished with a personal best of 4:33:53, placing 202nd, which is 16 minutes faster than his time last year.

In total, 378 runners completed the marathon.

Meanwhile, six AVRs made their way to North Devon for the Bideford 10, a ten-mile race along the Tarka Trail.

The route is primarily flat, with a small hill offering views of the Taw and Torridge Estuary.

The event was won by international steeplechaser Phil Norman, who finished in 49:57.

Rich Hardy was the first AVR to cross the finish line, placing 17th in 56:52 and coming fourth in the M40 category.

These runners used the event as part of their marathon training.

Diane and Graham Newton also had strong finishes, with Graham placing third in the M75 category at 1:22.05 and Diane finishing fourth in the F75 category at 2:15.42.

In Sidmouth, five AVRs participated in the Sidmouth 10k, which took runners along the scenic Byes and included a steep hill.

Joel Seward finished third overall in 36:46, improving his time by 43 seconds from last year.

Richard Coffey came in 62nd at 51:26, while Carol Austin, returning from injury, finished 16th female and second in the F55 category at 52:46.

In Somerset, five AVRs took part in the Herepath Half, a trail half marathon that follows the Herepath Trail in the Blackdown Hills.

Rob Collier was the first AVR to finish in 12th place at 1:43.29.

The weekend also included the Seaton parkrun on Saturday, where Debbie Whiston was the first female finisher in 20:16.
