The Cornish air certainly suited Honiton Town who made the long trip to Dobwalls near Liskeard where they won 3-1 to progress to the last sixteen of the Walter Parsons League Cup.

Cheered on by a vocal travelling support, Honiton opened strongly without being able to add the finishing touch.

Dominance paid off in the 33rd minute though when Kyle Howell got in behind the Dobwalls defence and rounded the goalkeeper before scoring.

A slick move just before the break produced a second goal, Howell and Jordan Harris combining to set up Joe Chamberlain who slid in to score.

The second half started more evenly although the Hippos almost went further ahead when an effort from Aaron Pearse from the edge of the box crashed against the crossbar.

Dan Tate did pull one back for the home side just past the hour but it was Honiton who had the final word when a free kick from out wide fell kindly for Man-of-the-Match Harris to finish from close range.

In the last sixteen, Honiton will again be on their travels into Cornwall, this time meeting Sticker from St. Austell.

Sidmouth went out of the competition following a 4-2 defeat away to section rivals Elburton Villa.

A mistake at the back gave Elburton the chance to take the lead in the 12th minute and the Vikings were two goals behind after half an hour when the ball was given away in midfield.

A brighter start to the second half got Sidmouth back into the game through a Craig Veal strike. He followed up to score when the goalkeeper parried a Liam Carey drive.

A well taken goal on the break made it 3-1 to the Villa and with ten minutes to go Sidmouth gave themselves hope when Corey Rogers played a one-two with Louis Jagger Cane before hammering the ball home.

Any chance of getting level were killed three minutes from the end however when Elburton took the score to 4-2 from the penalty spot.

Scorers for Elburton were Jack Alexander, Sam Hughes, Callum Merrin and Levi Landricombe.

After their crucial midweek league win over Bishops Lydeard, it was back down to earth for Axminster Town who were knocked out of the League Cup 9-1 at home by West Division leaders Newquay.

“We kept them at bay for twenty-five minutes or so without creating any real chances but then they really got on top and led 5-0 at half time,” said manager Mark Scott.

The Cornish side added four more after the break with the Tigers consolation goal coming through a delightful twenty-five- yard strike from promising youngster Owen Dibling.

Scott is hoping to draft in several more experienced players this week and a postponement at Teignmouth means Axminster are without a match on Saturday (October 19th).

Meanwhile Sidmouth are in FA Vase action at home to Barnstaple Town and Honiton entertain Stoke Gabiel and Torbay Police in a Peninsula League East match. Both have 3.00 p.m. kick offs.
