Despite the result, it was a promising start as the Tigers got back into action, playing their first match under recently appointed manager Mark Scott.

The home side were under pressure for much of the first half but Brad Loaring, Conor Richardson and Daniel Beer defended well and debutant goalkeeper Jack Rutter was in tremendous form.

There was no score at the break but Teignmouth attacked with more purpose in the second half.

Axminster looked most dangerous on the break and from set pieces and they went close to scoring when Richardson’s fierce volley tested the visiting goalkeeper.

The Tigers conceded the first goal after 70 minutes when a mix-up in defence allowed Liam Jones to finish from close range.

Soon afterwards Jack Towill rounded Rutter to make it 2-0 and

Danny Carroll added a third before the end from a left-wing cross.

In summary, the new Axminister side did well considering that went into the game after only two training sessions and having missed a pre-season build up.
