UPLYME and LYME REGIS 91 (5pts) lost to BRAUNTON 278-7 (20pts) by 187 runs.

A depleted Uplyme side were outclassed in this Devon League C Division East match with Braunton’s maximum points haul keeping them well on course for promotion at the end of the season.

The North Devon outfit opted to take first strike and were soon among the runs through Andrew Norman and Callum Mitchell.

There was a total of 110 on the board before the first wicket fell with Norman moving on to 71 before being stumped and Mitchell reaching 65.

Later batters added to this solid platform as Tom Smallridge stayed around for an unbeaten 31 and Teriq Worrell plundered a quick-fire 29 from 19 deliveries.

Ben Whittington proved to be Uplyme’s most successful bowler (3-45) and there was also some reward for Andrew Harrison’s patient stint (2-45).

Uplyme’s batting response also reflected the one-sided nature of the game with only three batters reaching double figures.

Two of those were openers Alfie Jaques (18) and Preston Hilless (10) but after that it was only skipper Sam Farrow (27) who showed any resistance.

The pace of Worrell (2-34) put the skids under Uplyme early on and then seasoned campaigners Jon Baglow (3-11) and Steve Moore (3-17) took over to comfortably mop up the middle order and the tail.

Uplyme, with three league matches remaining, travel to Seaton for a local derby on Saturday (1.00pm start)
