Honiton Golf Club has had a busy week full of competitions and a new goal of growing the game of golf.

There's never been a better time to take up golf, and the golf club is making it a reality by successfully working with its partnering organisations to make the sport accessible to all.

In April, the club launched their hugely successful Swing into Action event, which was followed by the 2024 Women on Par programme, in association with England Golf.

The event was attended by over 40 women, many of whom then signed up for the club's annual Golf Access course that concluded on Wednesday.

Guided by fellow club members and led by the HGC PGA Professional, Adrian Cave, the course offered alternative weeks of practical instruction at the practice areas and real-time games on the course.

The shared objective was to provide experience in striking the ball and holing a putt.

Adrian Cave noted the progress made by participants at the culmination of the 10-week course.

He said: "All had made good progress throughout the weeks."

The HGC Ladies captain, Cathy Pawley was thrilled with the remarkable female representation at the event.

HGC business director, Jayne Jackson also expressed her delight at the successful realisation of the club’s aim of growth.

She stated how pleased she was to note that the objective of the club was well received, and she looked forward to welcoming all new players to the club.

In a separate event, the club's ever-popular Texas Scramble saw 6 teams battling it out in the Tuesday Mixed competition.

The change in weather after a wet day at the course presented an opportune moment for the competition.

The team led by Cathy Uttley, Lorraine Ritchie, Mick Swann, and David Smith took advantage of the conditions with their net score of 59.

The club's Senior section also had its share of excitement, where a fine day of weather facilitated some keen scoring in the July monthly medal.

The top spot was nabbed by Jim Wallis who displayed an impressive performance, registering a score of 66.

The event also included a 2's competition in which players Geoff Stone and Peter Waters received 8 balls each.
