Honiton Golf Club recently witnessed a flurry of tournaments and social celebrations, setting a buzzing scene.
The Ladies Captain v Vice Captain Competition Day saw the team of the captain clinching a hard-fought victory with a score of 6-4.
The match was followed by an equally memorable celebration honouring the long-standing association of Anne Davies with the club.
It was fitting to celebrate Anne Davies' 50 years of association with Honiton Golf Club; as a member, Lady Captain on three occasions and President of the Club for seven years.
A grand celebratory event was arranged where past and present friends and Club members congregated to laud Anne's dedication.
A cake, celebratory drink and gifts marked the occasion, along with a speech from Anne herself. The clubhouse was filled with a happy feel.
The fortnight was also full of multiple competitions among Honiton Ladies.
Anusara Trayling dominated the County Prize 5 Stableford on May 24, followed by a win on May 29, and lifting the Jubilee Cup competition.
Trayling's formidable performance brought her a total score of 75 points across two rounds.
Stephani Barnes put up an impressive game scoring 36 points on May 29 making her the winner, Division 2, while also scoring second place in the Jubilee Cup.
The High Six trophy saw Joan Crook emerge victorious with 30 points, specifically aimed at handicappers 31 and over.
Further, Maureen Lawrence was crowned the winner of the 9-hole Stableford competition on May 29, securing 13 points.
The fun extended beyond traditional tournaments with the unusual Greenkeepers Revenge Event held on July 6.
The greenkeepers presented a challenging course filled with unexpected and amusing obstacles.
The evening concluded with chatter and laughter as the players discussed their experiences.
Head Greenkeeper Stuart Broom announced the winners and losers and Ladies Captain, Cathy Pawley presented the prizes.
Congratulations went to David Grimshaw and Mark, Oliver and Sam Olliff, who triumphed over adversity.
The unique event saw 92 members participating and was immensely popular with golfers and audiences alike.
Honiton's summer fortnight is a testament to the vibrant and dynamic spirit of Devon's golfing community, and an ode to the decades of dedicated service of members like Anne Davies.
