At the start of February, Paul Willey from Honiton Golf Club (Men’s Captain 2023), Jayne Jackson (Ladies Captain 2023) and Bob Graham (Seniors Captain 2023) presented a cheque to Bowel Cancer West for £9,337.66.
Bowel Cancer West Chairman and Founder Mark Coleman attended the club for the presentation.
Bowel Cancer West is a charity working tirelessly to ensure the survival rates of people in the South West of England diagnosed with the condition are the highest in the country.
The three Captains wanted to ensure that they raised as much money as possible for Bowel Cancer West during their 2023 tenure and as such organised a number of member and visitor events throughout the year, kick started by a charity dinner and auction, followed by events such as a horse racing night, raffles, cake sales during golf opens, an Australian BBQ and a Christmas Fayre.
Paul Willey said: “We are delighted to have raised this amount of money for Bowel Cancer West as we know that this contribution will not only assist those that have been diagnosed but will also support research into finding ways in which this cancer can be prevented.
“We want to thank all of our members and visitors to the club who have supported us in raising money for the charity, whether it be to volunteer in providing cakes at our Halfway House during Opens or selling or buying raffle tickets, their support has been overwhelming.”
Mark Coleman told members at the presentation that: “this amount of money will make a huge difference to the charity and will help in many areas; we cannot thank the club enough for their hard work and support.”
More information on this vitally important charity can be found on www.bowelcancerwest.com and congratulations to everyone at Honiton GC for their contributions.
