The Annual Captains Drive-in at Honiton Golf Club took place with a great turnout of more than 80 competitors, playing in the format of two scores out of four to count, writes Dave Carnall.
Winning with a creditable 79 points were John and Jayne Jackson, Graeme Garwood and James Khodabandehloo, finishing one point ahead of Charles Doherty, Matt Young, Nick Doman and Dan Meek and another point further back in third was Ross Latchem, Jason Lovering, Spencer Macklin and Justin Meads.
And, as is tradition, the Captains had to drive from the 18th tee and find the fairway, and naming no names, some needed a couple of drives to find it!
The Captains then hosted an evening dinner and auction raising over £1100 for this year’s chosen Charity, Dementia Friendly Honiton. A special mention must go to the three trainee waiters, Adrian Cave, Julian Phillips and Steve Key and not a pot was broken!
Despite a very chilly wind, 34 ladies ventured out to play 4-ball better ball, won by Tracey Smith and Lesley Oxenham. The 9-hole competition winner was Danusia White. Cathy Uttley and Mick Swann triumphed in the Honiton Tuesday Mixed players hold a Greensomes Competition for the Centenary Goblets.
