Axminster Town booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Walter C Parson League Cup with a superb 1-0 victory at an all-conquering Ivybridge Town.
The Ivies have been imperious in the South West Peninsula League so far this season, losing just once, and they lead the division by seven points but the Tigers took on the challenge with a determination that proved too much for their hosts.
Jake Quick scored the only goal for Axminster, with Chris McGrath picking up the man of the match award. The Tigers have a home tie against either Elburton Villa or Teignmouth in the next round.
Cup duties for Ivybridge opened the door for Crediton United to edge a bit closer in the league, as they stormed to a 4-0 victory at Dartmouth, who are now on a rebuild under a new management team.
Bridport, in third, fought back from a 3-0 deficit Teignmouth to eventually win a wonderful game 6-4. The goals were also flying in at Newton Abbot Spurs, where the home side defeated Torridgeside 6-3 in another cracker.
Honiton Town endured a tough day at Bovey Tracey, losing 5-1 on the Moors, while Sidmouth Town produced some fabulous attacking football to beat a strong Cullompton Rangers team 4-0. The final game was another goal feast, Okehampton Argyle beating Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police 4-3.
The SWPL moves on to the busy Boxing Day programme and some tremendous ties all through the division, starting with another big test for Axminster, who make the trip over the border to play Bridport.
Sidmouth Town v Honiton Town has all the ingredients for an East Devon classic. The Vikings have been excellent over recent weeks, while the Hippos will be desperate to build some momentum for 2024.
In the Devon Football League, goals from Isaac Littlejohns and Lewis Masters earned struggling Feniton a 2-2 draw at home to Newtown. Fenny are another side looking to change their picture in the New Year.
There was a super East Devon derby at Topsham Town, where Budleigh Salterton took the honours with a 4-2 victory. Ottery St Mary slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Lakeside Athletic, with the University of Exeter and Appledore occupying the top two positions.
