Honiton Golf Club has been nominated for three awards at the Club Mirror and Club Awards ‘Festival of Awards’ 2023. HGC are up for Best Initiative, Best Club and Best Caterer for the awards, which will be held on Wednesday, November 22 at the Athena in Leicester, hosted by John Inverdale.
Following on from the success of the England Golf Women on Par event that was launched in April and the subsequent roll out of the Golf Access programme that commenced in May and ran until July, Honiton Golf Club introduced a two-year Academy Pathway membership for new golfers looking to get into the sport, which has enabled a number of those who attended the aforementioned programmes to join the club.
The Club Awards are the only awards serving the club sector and include nominations from a variety of different clubs from Rugby and Cricket Clubs to Social Clubs and Community Clubs and everything in between. The objective being to ‘throw the spotlight on the vital role that clubs play in the communities’.
Devon Greenslade, Club Manager said: ‘We are delighted to not only have been nominated, but to have been shortlisted in three categories, this is a big achievement for our club!”
Jayne Jackson, Lady Captain, added: “I am thrilled and very proud to have been shortlisted for the initiatives that we launched earlier this year. Our aim was to reach out to the local community and help them to understand that golf is an accessible, inclusive sport that anyone can take up, being shortlisted demonstrates that we have achieved our goal.”
In addition to the golf, Emma Greenslade of Ponchydown Catering (who is the Caterer for the Club) and her team have also been shortlisted for Best Caterer. Emma said: “I am really excited by the news, we have put in a lot of hard work over the last couple of years to establish the business at the Club and that hard work has paid off!”
A small group of members from the Club will be travelling to the Award Ceremony later this month to attend the awards.
