Paul Willey held his Men’s Captain day with a field of 92 players, playing in the Stableford format, at Honiton Golf Club.
Scoring was tough on a windy day and coming out on top was Steve Key with 38 points, beating on countback James Khodabandehloo and back in third was Derek Richards with 36 and winning the Jim Loosemore Longest Drive Cup was Darren McCabe.
Honiton Seniors continued their excellent run in friendly fixtures with a fine win at Enmore Park. The team ably led by stand-in captain Peter Clarke registered a 4.5 to 1.5 victory.
The Friday competition was a non-qualifying Individual Stableford with 3 Mulligans. Those who used their Mulligans most wisely were, in Division 2, George Blake with 39 points who edged out Bill Phillips on countback. Topping Division 1 and overall winner was John Craig with 41 points with runner-up Sydney Martin on 39 points. Special mention to Geoff Stone whose two came as an eagle on the 16th hole!
The Ladies Del Cup Round is a 36 hole stableford competition played over two days, and on day one, it was Janet Hughes who was in the lead with 35 points, closely followed by Ann Trayling with 34. On day 2, Ann scored 37 and her combined score of 71 points was enough to make her the winner of the Del Cup.
There were 29 ladies taking part in the stableford on the second day, with Rashmi Jeffery winning Division 1 with a splendid score of 38 points. Sue Kelson was first in Division 2 with 36. Nine ladies entered the 9-hole stableford competition. Diane Rider came first with a great score of 20 points.
The format for this week's Tuesday Mixed competition was a team betterball reduced to ten holes due to rain.
In first place, with a score of 51 points, were Janet and David Hughes with Sue and Paul Ritchie. The second placed team only had three players and so a 'ghost' player was nominated in advance to be their fourth player.
With the help of the ghost player (David Hughes), Vera and Alan Richardson with Joan Crook had a score of 50 points. With a score of 46 points, the third placed team were Linda and Steve Blundell with Heidi and Marcus Watson-Jones.
