Honiton travelled to Gloucester for their quarter final of the Papa Johns competition. They started well and were awarded a penalty after a few minutes, unfortunately Jake Smith saw his effort drift wide.
The home team capitalised on the Honiton dropped ball for their second rower to score the first try of the game and lead after five minutes.
They extended their lead when their right winger scored under the posts, this was converted, 12-0. Through another Honiton mistake, this time from the line-out, the hosts’ number five got his second try of the game for another converted score, 19-0
With 25 minutes gone, Hucclecote scored again through their loose head prop who forced his way over from short range, conversion missed, 24-0.
Honiton started to put some phases together and pressed the home team try line.
With a few minutes of the first half remaining, Ben Kidson scored the first try of the game for the Ton, Jake Smith converted, 24-7
The second half got underway and Honiton received the kick off, two phases later Johnny House kicked a fifty twenty and they won a penalty from the line out. It was Honiton’s turn to benefit from a mistake and Will Leonard collected a bouncing ball to score under the posts. It was converted by Jake Smith for 24-14.
Hucclecote added a penalty when Honiton were penalised for offside 27-14 The home side were not as dominant in the second half but unfortunately were doing enough to keep the Ton out.
Hucclecote added another penalty when most from the sideline thought the home had a passed the ball forward in the previous play, 30-14.
Jake Smith chipped the ball through but unfortunately it bounced into the hands of the home team full-back, who made an impressive break to pass to the supporting eleven who scored under the posts, 37-14
Honiton did not let their heads drop and spent the rest of the half in their opponents twenty two. They were rewarded with a try from full-back Dom Bernhardt, Jake Smith missed the conversion, 37-19.
This proved to be the last score of the game and Hucclecote progressed to the next round. Honiton can look forward to their end of season tour next week.
