Millwey Rise are level on points with second-placed Bickleigh in Division 5 of the Devon & Exeter League following an entertaining 4-2 victory at home to Awliscombe.
After some good early work by goalkeeper Flynn Smith, Millwey took control with an Owen Dibling header and Luke Thurlow’s exquisite lob. The visitors reduced the deficit on 70 minutes but Jack Bennett soon made it 3-1. Another Awliscombe goal could have made it tense but Ty Allen was on hand to confirm the Millwey win.
In the same division, Axmouth United had a tough afternoon, going down 5-0 at home to Whipton & Pinhoe but there was a great result for Cranbrook United, with Ben Gait scoring a fine hat-trick in their 3-1 triumph at Thorverton 2nds.
There was some disappointing news from the League, however, as Seaton Town Reserves have been forced to withdraw from Division 7 due to ongoing struggles with player availability.
