On Friday, March 3 it was the much-awaited waltz at Honiton Golf Club. For the uninitiated, it’s one to score then two and three and repeated throughout the round.
There were some good scores and the winning team of John Robinson, John Birch and Eric Short took the honours with 72 points.
However, the highlight of the day was a hole in one by Jim Wallis, a great effort as the 12th hole, playing all of its 186 yards, is not the easiest to produce a hole in one, so that's two weeks running the Seniors have had a hole in one, can we have a hat trick? Also, it was good to see Steve Butcher back on the course.
The Ladies weekend Medal was won by Sarah Loader with a nett score of 76, followed in second place by Cathy Williams with a nett 82.
The second Medal competition was played on Wednesday. Division 1 was won by Georgie Hope-Edwards with a nett 73, closely followed by Sue Ritchie with a nett 74. Cathy Williams took part in her second Medal of the week and won Division 2 with a nett 73. Lesley Farley was second with nett 76 and Jo Donmall third with nett 77.
Eight players also took part in a 9-hole Stableford and this was won by Monica Scovell with 17 points, winning on countback from Carole Booth who also scored 17 points.
The monthly Greensomes saw 11 pairs taking part. As usual over the winter season, the competition was limited to 14 holes, after which players returned to the clubhouse for drinks and a meal.
This week's winners were Barbara Cummings and Harry Lawrence who scored 31 points. Second place went to Liz Wood and Mick Swann who also scored 31 points but lost out on countback. Third place was another countback calculation, with Maggie and John Harvey prevailing with 30 points.
The first integrated medal was played at the end of February and with an excellent nett 65, Michael Collins took the honours. Tim Metheringham took second place with 67 and in third was Dave Carnall with 71.
