The impressive form of Honiton Town reached a new level with an outstanding 2-1 victory at Bovey Tracey in the South-West Peninsula League.
Taking on a Moorlander side that has spent much of the season in the upper echelons of the division, the Hippos held their own in a tight first period.
The game continued to be a midfield tussle for much of the second half and was heading for a 0-0 draw when Bovey finally snatched the breakthrough, Neil Last sweeping the ball into the corner of the net.
The Honiton response to such a late setback was superb. A ferocious drive by Joel Jackson was handled in the box and Lewis Couch calmly converted the subsequent penalty.
Not content with a last-gasp draw, the Hippos then struck Bovey with a swift counter in the dying seconds and a deep cross by Jake Heggerty was bundled over the line by a jubilant Kyle Howell.
The Tigers of Axminster Town also travelled to the Moors and took on the massive challenge of title challengers Okehampton Argyle.
An intriguing match saw two quality sides match each other in most departments, with Ben Palmer imperious in defence for Axminster.
The Tigers edged in front with a strike by Craig Veal but were pegged back by an own goal for a 1-1 draw that leaves Axminster sixth in the table. The Okes are a point behind leaders Crediton with a game in hand.
In the Devon Football League, a brace from Taylor Rooke was enough to extend Beer Albion’s unbeaten home record to an incredible 383 days. The Fishermen defeated an excellent North Molton side to open up a ten-point lead at the top.
In the Devon & Exeter League, Millwey Rise are just three points behind the leading duo in Division 5 after a comfortable 5-0 home victory over Amory Green Rovers.
Nathan Womersley opened the scoring with a penalty before a lovely pass from Ty Allen released Sam Dibling, who notched again for a 3-0 half-time lead. Millwey cruised through the second period and added gloss to the victory with a brace from substitute Luke Thurlow.
