Honiton RFC had to dig deep and fight back from a half-time deficit before eventually running out deserved 18-10 winners at home to Exeter Saracens.
The Sarries broke the deadlock with a penalty on 25 minutes and then scored a converted try after a deft run by the scrum half but, although the Ton trailed by 10-0, a couple of sensible substitutions bulked up their pack for a second-half recovery.
Jake Smith slotted an excellent penalty from distance and a yellow card for the visitors gave Honiton an extra boost. Smith crossed the line for the home side’s first try and the score was now a very manageable 10-8.
Mathew Baily finally got the score to give the Ton a lead for the first time in the match, bundling over the line with brute force. A late penalty from Smith confirmed the victory and a terrific display after a frustrating start.
