Clevedon Ladies got their season back on rack with a comfortable but competitive 8-1 victory over Avonmouth on the newly-laid pitch at Clevedon School.
The home side poured into the attack from the start with the influential midfield pairing of Lauren Bird and Helen LaFevre providing a springboard for the attack, Caitlin Meredith spread confusion in the Avonmouth defence and it wasn't long before the home side took the lead when the ball fell to Hannah Becker to open the scoring,
Meredith doubled the lead and another goal from Lucy Pope dented Avonmouth hopes, although they did notch a consolation.
After the break, a quickfire double from Meredith completed her hat-trick and put clear blue water between the teams at 5-1. The home attack was now in command, Becker and LaFevre surging forward almost at will to overwhelm the visitors but still Avonmouth fought on and Christina Becker in the Clevedon goal had to be alert to protect the lead.
Leading scorer Vicky Fordpopped up to get the sixth goal, Pope added the seventh and Georgina Blackburn was on hand to complete the scoring with number eight.
On Saturday, Clevedon entertain free-scoring Bristol at Clevedon School, 10.30am start.
