Honiton RFC returned to action with a 19-5 defeat against Barnstaple and the match kicked off after a two minutes silence in memory of former Honiton club captain Malcolm Salter who died last week.
Honiton started brightly despite the atrocious weather and after 6 minutes they got the first try of the game. The ball was recovered and after several phases Finn Parrat scored wide left, the conversion was missed. 0-5
Barnstaple responded with a strong spell, forcing a number of penalties before diving over for a converted score.
The second half started in the same manner as the first half ended, Honiton enjoyed more possession but were unable to take advantage.
Barnstaple broke the deadlock when another of their effective driving mauls got them close to the Honiton line, from the breakdown their inside centre forced his way over, try was converted 14-5.
Honiton were awarded a penalty for offside by the home side but unfortunately Dom Lovesy saw his effort drift wide. Barnstaple were dominating the territory and possession and in the heavy conditions, they scored another short range try, the conversion went wide, 19-5.
