Honiton RFC suffered a painful 30-25 at Devonport Services 2nds after a terrific game of rugby.
The home side raced into an early 12-0 lead but the Ton recovered with a good run from Jake Smith, and continued that momentum with their first score. Josh Rice breezed through the defence to feed Phil Bennett for a try. Dom Lovesy quickly added a second to make the score 12-10.
A penalty extended the Devonport advantage and scored another try early in the second period. The Ton were seriously on the back foot when the deficit was stretched to 27-10.
A sin bin halted Devonport’s progress and Honiton responded with a lovely try from Ben Spence, breaking off the back of the scrum. Jake Smith made it 27-20 and then reduced the score to 27-25 with a superb solo try.
Sadly, a late penalty confirmed the Devonport victory but a cracking game.
