Millwey Rise rose to the dizzy heights of second in Division 8 of the Devon & Exeter League after a superb 4-1 victory at home to Bampton 2nds.
Playing into a strong breeze in the first period, Millwey were grateful to Jack Bennett for a brilliant early save but Bampton got their reward for a long spell of pressure with the opening goal on 35 minutes.
The ‘Rise’ reaction was outstanding. Manager Terry Male made a double substitution at the break and his side drew level when Callum Farquhar converted a lovely assist from Ben Webb. Just two minutes later, they took the lead when the same player fired a powerful shot into the visitors’ net.
The game remained in the balance until Joe Osborne gave Millwey some breathing space with another accomplished finish and he then added another to complete a fine all-round performance from a team starting to dream.
