A powerful second-half display proved enough to push Axminster Town up to fifth in the South-West Peninsula League.
Travelling to an unpredictable Holsworthy, who have thrown up a few surprise wins over higher-placed opposition this term, the Tigers established a foothold in the game with an opening goal from Aaron Daniels.
The Holsworthy Magpies recovered to draw level at the break but it was all about Axminster in the second period. Oscar Latas scored the deserved winner and the Tigers can now look forward to a weekend visit from St Blazey in the Walter C Parson League Cup.
Honiton Town remain in the bottom half following a 2-0 defeat at home to title-chasing Brixham, who took the lead with a deflected effort from Ewan Howarth. The Hippos stayed in the game and had chances to level, but Brixham confirmed their victory with a Kieran Parkin strike on the hour. Honiton welcome Holsworthy on Saturday.
Beer Albion remain top of the Devon Football League, despite the postponement of their weekend game with Topsham Town, but it was a tough afternoon for Feniton, who went down 5-0 at home to North Molton. Fenny host University of Exeter this weekend, while Beer travel to Stoke Gabriel in the Cup.
Lyme Regis cut the gap on leader Alphington to eight points, with a game in hand, after a 3-1 victory over Sandford in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League. Bradley Rowe scored twice for Lyme and Steve Batey was also on target.
It was a disappointing weekend for Colyton, however, as they lost ground in third after a 3-1 loss at home to Kentisbeare.
In Division 1, Upottery had to work very hard before overcoming third-placed Bow AAC 2-1. Despite being down to ten men, the visitors pushed the Otters all the way. A double from Blake Freemantle eventually did the job for Upottery.
Callum Hoare, Daniel MacDonald and Tom Taylor were the scorers for Cranbrook in their efficient 3-0 win at Clyst Valley 2nds in Division 2.
Seaton Town suffered a painful 8-2 loss at home to the University in Division 3, while Lyme Regis Reserves went down 7-1 against Bravehearts. Joe Urquhart bagged a double for Uplyme but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 defeat at Budleigh Salterton 2nds.
