Axe Cliff Ladies managed to find a dry day last week and were able to finish two annual competitions in one game.
Firstly, the Lorraine Cup, which is only open to those who won a Medal Round last year. In-form Sandra Walker is this year's winner with a nett 76.
The last Round of The Axe Cliff Cup, which is the lowest aggregate score of the best 3 from 5 nominated Medal Rounds over the year, was run alongside, with Jo Hopgood nett 74 just beating Sandra Waker with a 76.
After the calculations, this year's champion was young Stella Thompson, now the proud owner of the Axe Cliff Cup.
The Seniors made the most of some good conditions, especially the Division 1 players and particularly club director Kyle Phillpots, winning the Stableford with 40 points. He was obviously happy with the result of the EGM during the week, which indicates a good future for Axe Cliff GC in its 128th year.
Simon Wellington, last year's manager, was second with 39 points, leaving Phil Howse taking third spot on 38. Malcolm Glass won Division 2 with 34 points but only on countback from Phil Clarke. Old crooner, Phil Christmas is coming into his own again coming third with 33 pts - keep singing Phil.
Summer seems a long time ago now with December looming but I am pleased to announce that Stuart Mackie, now retired, is the winner of this year's Summer Ecletcic Cup with a magnificent nett 62, scoring 14 pars, 3 birdies and only 1 bogey - what a player!
The Men's section also had good conditions but lower temperatures to contend with in Sunday's November Medal. Division 1 was won by Alan Kenworthy with a nett 70 after his 8 handicap. Richard Gibbons took second place from Brad Burraston on countback from their shared nett 71 scores.
The higher handicappers in Division 2 excelled, Mike Rymer winning with an amazing 61 from Dave Cottam on 66 and Jimmy Matthews was third with 67. Goodness knows what Mike and Dave's 29 handicap will be reduced to now.
These great scores are only possible because of the fantastic greens that we now have, even after all our rain recently, thanks to Alex and the hardworking greens staff.
