Axe Cliff Golf Club was delighted to appoint its youngest ever Men's Captain this year, Harvey Gibbons.
His Dad, Richard, has been a member since 1982 and first introduced Harvey to Axe Cliff when he was only 12. He was introduced to our thriving Juniors and trained by present Senior Geoff Hughes (now 87) and John Gooding, and now he is our youngest Captain at 29.
Harvey said: "It has truly been a privilege to take on the Captaincy with my home club and give something back to my local community. I still never tire of the stunning views and the sense of camaraderie between the members, which brings me back each week.”
The Ladies have been having fun lately. The main winners from Invitation Day were Paula Heasman and two guests. Karin Cox and Jo Hopgood played well in the County Express & Echo event to finish mid-table. Stella Thompson and Pauline Willis stomped to victory in the Pink Ball comp.
A superb nett 68 gave Chris Walker victory in the Seniors Medal, while the annual Ron Miller Claret Jug was also well attended as always in memory of popular late Treasurer Ron Miller. Alan Morgan and Stuart Mackie were the worthy winners.
