A parkrun has celebrated its eighth anniversary with a special event.

Seaton parkrun, which takes place on the Esplanade in Seaton, has been running every Saturday morning since November 2018, apart from a short pause during the pandemic.

To celebrate the milestone, runners, walkers, and volunteers wore their favourite hats or created special ones for the occasion.

The event, which is a free 5k-timed run, has seen almost 15,000 participants over the years, with 657 volunteers supporting the event.

One of the event directors, Carol Austin, said: "We can’t thank our volunteers enough; we have a super team and visitors always say how cheerful and encouraging our volunteers are.

"We also want to thank the people of Seaton who come and watch, help and run and have contributed to the event becoming so successful.

"It brings lots of visitors to the town with our average attendance now well over 200, including many tourists, especially during the summer."

Prizes for the special birthday event were donated by Hideaway, Natural Worx, and Cortona Gelato Lab, with volunteers and runners enjoying coffee and birthday cake at Pebbles café afterwards.

Anyone can take part in parkrun from four years old (four to 11-year-olds must run with a parent or carer) with no upper age limit.

Seaton recently welcomed its oldest participant at 91 years old.
