Residents and staff at a care home have united to raise funds for a minibus adventure.

The community at Rose Lawn Care Community, on All Saints Road, Sidmouth, worked together to gather money for a week-long minibus trip.

Rose Lawn, a part of Keychange Charity, held a Summer fete, involving both staff and residents in its preparation and hosting.

The residents enjoyed baking, crafting, and reminiscing about their past careers while helping at various stalls.

Thanks to a strong turnout and generous donations, the residents decided to use the funds to hire a 16-seater minibus for their upcoming outings.

Across a total of six days, the minibus visited multiple different destinations including Otter Nurseries, World Country Life, and the seaside towns of Seaton and West Bay.

The positive impact on residents was remarkable.

Christina Williams, Registered Manager at Rose Lawn, said: "Almost all our residents were able to enjoy outings in the minibus, and the benefits were evident.

"One resident with dementia and severe mobility issues experienced a complete turnaround after the trip—her mobility improved, and she returned beaming with joy."

Kathryn Light, Community Coordinator at Rose Lawn, supported the trips throughout the week and said: "The feedback from residents and their families has been overwhelmingly positive.

"Spending quality time in different settings sparked many conversations.

"One resident was moved to tears during our seaside visit; it was truly special."

The week of activities was made possible by Rose Lawn’s dedicated staff, including head housekeeper Kevin, who drove throughout the week.

Resident Barbara said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my trips out on the minibus.

"Otter Nurseries has always been one of my favourite places.

"Kevin was a careful driver, making me feel very safe, and Kathryn did a wonderful job at organising everything.

"The trips truly put a smile on my face."

Keen to continue enjoying trips out together, residents and staff hope this will not be the last minibus adventure.

Resident Pam said: "I hope our Christmas Fayre raises enough money to hire another minibus for the spring."
