The third season of BAFTA-nominated Netflix TV show “Heartstopper” arrived on Netflix and Lyme Regis Beach is one of the filming destinations.

In this season, Lyme Regis, on the south coast of Dorset, serves as the beach where characters Tara, Darcy, Imogen, Sahar, Elle, Tao, Izaac and Nick and Charlie enjoy a day out in the first episode titled “love”.

Characters from the show can be seen eating fish and chips with the iconic Cobb in the background.

Film crews took to Lyme in October of last year to shoot the coming-of-age drama.

Lyme Regis has proven a popular filming location, including for Wonka starring Timothee Chalamet and Ammonite starring Kate Winslett and Saorise Ronan.

Production crews were spotted at both Monmouth and Sandy beaches in the resort, with filming equipment – leading to swarms of fans taking to the beach to catch a glimpse of the cast.

Filming also took place in Broad Street, on the Southwest Coast Path and in Langmoor and Lister Gardens.

Heartstopper stars Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Jonathan Bailey Stephen Fry, and Olivia Colman.

Based on the graphic LGBTQ+ novels by Alice Oseman, it follows the story of Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), a gay teen who falls in love with his friend/classmate Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).

Series three will see Nick and Charlie take their relationship to the next level, whilst Charlie confronts his inner battles with mental illness, and the iconic friendship group looking towards their individual futures as they start sixth form.

Since the shows release Lyme Regis has had an influx of new visitors.

According to our sister title, the Bridport news: “Lyme businesses received a boost from the internationally popular teen drama being filmed in the resort last year.”

Trader Dan Archer, of Lyme Regis Antiques and Craft Centre, said: "It is good to bring in a few more people to the town.

"Anything that puts Lyme Regis on the map is of course a good thing for local businesses."

Cllr Philip Evans, mayor of Lyme Regis and chairman of the town council’s Tourism, Community and Publicity Committee, said: “Lyme Regis is a popular destination for film and television crews and it’s hardly surprising – the beauty and history of Lyme Regis is the perfect backdrop for both modern and historical productions.

“There is always a lot of excitement when a big production is filmed in Lyme Regis and the filming of Heartstopper last year was no exception. Everyone tried to catch a glimpse of the programme’s stars and fans were trying to get a hint of what the storyline might be.

“The town is transformed and becomes a hive of activity when filming is taking place and it’s very interesting to see behind the scenes and how that translates to the scenes we see on screen.

“It seems Lyme Regis features heavily in Heartstopper and the exposure will hopefully draw people to the area. It shows the town in a great light and I’m sure people will see it, wonder where it is and become interested in visiting themselves.”
