A New Orleans soul artist is set to perform in Seaton.

Acantha Lang will be presented by East Devon Soul at the Gateway Theatre on Friday, December 6, at 7.30pm.

The collective is working to rejuvenate Seaton's music scene through a series of gigs and a festival planned for 2026.

Lang, an emerging singer-songwriter, is known for her soulful vocals and emotive storytelling.

Her first full-length album, Beautiful Dreams, showcases her New Orleans soulful sound and features great songwriting and musicianship.

The album garnered Album of the Month honours from Soul Tracks and received rave reviews with five-star ratings in Echoes Magazine and Soul Bag Magazine (France).

Lang has captivated audiences with performances at SXSW 2024, major venues in Spain and the UK, and renowned clubs like House of Blues (New Orleans) and Melkweg (Netherlands).

Lang's music, which blends Stax-inspired funk with Southern blues, tells highly personal tales atop spirited, shimmering grooves.

Her storytelling style harkens to age-old blues traditions while grounding itself in contemporary themes.

Her tracks deliver head-on lyrical attacks on fake news, odes to motherly love in the wake of Hurricane Katrina’s disaster, and celebrations of Black strength and womanhood.

With over three million streams and placements on top Spotify playlists like All Funked Up, Best Retro Songs, and Best Funk Songs of 2023, Lang's music is resonating with a global audience.

Extensive radio support in the UK from BBC 6Music's Funk & Soul Show and in the US from KCRW's Top Tune of the Day further solidifies her rising star status.

DJ Craig Charles distinguished Lang as "brilliant… an independent artist destined for world domination" in a recent interview for Blues & Soul Magazine.

Lang's rousing He Said/She Said appears on his recently released compilation album, The Craig Charles Trunk of Funk Vol 2, where he notes that it’s a track that "…will blow the cobwebs out of your eardrums and leave you breathless and eager for more".

Acantha Lang is presented by East Devon Soul, a local collective bringing quality live soul, funk, electronic, jazz, and Latin beats to the southern shores of the UK.

The evening will kick off with a DJ spinning funk and soul dance tunes across the generations.
