A volunteer tram driver at Seaton Tramway, Matthew Streeton, is featured in the BBC thriller Nightsleeper, now showing on the BBC.
Mr Streeton's has recorded some voiceovers for the new BBC drama Nightsleeper, a drama that follows a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, hijacked in a cyber attack. Matthew’s voice brings authenticity to the high-stakes drama.
Matt said: “Honestly, I never expected to be involved in something like Nightsleeper,” Matthew says. “It was a bit surreal being asked to lend my voice to the series. I’m just used to hearing my announcements at the stations or sharing little moments on TikTok. But it was an amazing experience, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”
Matthew is widely known not just at Seaton Tramway but across the UK rail network. After working in the railway industry in the South East of England, he became a voice for around 200 stations, delivering automated platform announcements between London and Sussex. His familiar announcements, including the iconic “Please mind the gap,” are heard daily by passengers at major stations like London Victoria, Brighton, and others along the route.
In addition to his railway work, Matthew has amassed a huge online following. With over 172,000 followers on TikTok under the handle @matt_thetrainguy, he shares engaging content about the world of railways, his experiences as a train announcer, and insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of the UK’s rail services.
