A grandmother and her grandson are set to skydive to raise money for a children's mental health charity.

Benjamin Wheeler and Diane Wheeler, of Gloucestershire, will take the plunge in support of The Wave Project, which runs surf therapy programmes for children.

Mr Wheeler was inspired to take part in the skydive after completing a week-long placement with The Wave Project in North Devon.

This will be his first skydive, while Ms Wheeler has completed a jump in the past.

Mr Wheeler said: "I’m taking on the skydive because I’ve had the chance to volunteer for The Wave Project and have seen the amazing impacts it has on children and adults alike.

"I think it’s a great cause and is brilliant to get people involved in a sport I love."

Ms Wheeler said: "I was thinking of buying Ben a skydive for his 18th birthday, but when the opportunity came up for us to go together and raise money for a charity that Ben has loved volunteering for it was perfect.

"I can’t wait to do it with him."

The Wheelers' skydive is scheduled for September 29 at Dunkeswell in Devon.

It will be one of several jumps taking place across six locations in the UK, including Surrey, Cornwall, Scotland, North Yorkshire and Durham.

Participants will be able to enjoy views of the British countryside and coastline while raising funds for The Wave Project.

By taking part in this challenge, the Wheelers hope to make a significant difference in the lives of children as young as eight who are struggling with mental health issues.

Those interested in joining the Wheelers or supporting the fundraiser can find out more and sign up on The Wave Project’s website.
