Lyme Regis is one of the United Kingdom’s most expensive locations to purchase a Mr Whippy ice cream, according to a recent survey,

In bad news for Lyme ice cream lovers, a user-generated survey, conducted by LatestDeals.co.uk, has placed Lyme Regis among the most expensive places to buy the classic ice cream.

Participants of the survey were asked to submit the prices of a standard Mr Whippy from their local ice cream vans, excluding the cost of extras like flakes or toppings.

The results found that it cost £3.50 to buy a Mr Whippy from Lyme Regis, costing significantly more than the national average.

With clear regional discrepancies in price, the survey indicated that the iconic soft ice cream was far more expensive in Lyme than in other locations such as Monmouthshire in Wales where it cost just £1.

However, it is not just in Lyme Regis that consumers are facing high costs for their ice cream, this summer, with a Mr Whippy from Glen Park in Plymouth costing an astonishing £6 – the most expensive place in the country to buy the ice cream.

Following closely behind on the list of the most expensive locations to buy a Mr Whippy were the Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester (£5) and Tower of London (£4.50).

With the school holidays starting and the weather improving, Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, warned consumers to “avoid the ice cream van in areas with lots of tourists”.

“Six pounds for a Mr Whippy is mad,”, he remarked.

“It seems to be in tourist hotspots that you’re most likely to get fleeced rather than local ice cream vans.”
