Ryder and Hope boutique shop in Lyme Regis has been named among the 50 best independent boutiques in the country, according to ‘fashion insiders’ in a Telegraph survey.
Rosie Drake-Amery, founder of Roake Studio, which hand-makes womenswear and accessories on the Isle of Wight, described Ryder and Hope on Broad Street as “gorgeous and inviting” with a “mix of mid-century chic and handcrafted goodies”.
Founded by two friends, Alice Meller and Michelle Blyth, Ryder and Hope sells a range of wares, from clothing and accessories to items for the home and crafts and prints.
The shop, which is celebrating nine years of business on May 1, has been described as a destination shop by customers visiting Lyme Regis.
Co-owner Michelle, who was an interior designer before opening the shop, said: “We only ever have things in the shop that we would want to own ourselves.
“We’re very practical buyers, buying items both beautiful and useful.”
Both Michelle and Alice work closely with local artists and designers, buying direct to support other small businesses in the area.
Describing the moment they found out about nomination, Michelle said: “We were a bit shocked but we're thrilled and it's really good.
“Some tricky situations have been thrown at retail generally over the last few years and it's been hard at times, so small, independent retailers being recognised like this is great.”
