Kids in Beer now have a swashbuckling seafront playground as part of a £400k district-wide revamp by East Devon District Council.
Kompan took just five weeks to transform the outdated Jubilee park into a pirate-themed facility with a large play ship, multiple activities and marine-themed surfacing graphics.
EDDC is also planning park makeovers at Lime Kiln, Budleigh, Ashfield Close in Exmouth starting April 29, Jerrard Close in Honiton on April 12 and Palegate Close, Honiton in early May, all with contractor Somerset Landscapes, except for Jerrard Close, which is with Play UK.
Local residents were consulted on what they would like in each play park.
Councillor Geoff Jung, EDDC’s portfolio holder for coast, country, and environment, said: "At Beer, there is a great pirate-themed area with a slide and a ship climbing frame – although it wasn’t possible to include a swing due to the restricted space and safety concerns.
"We’ve selected the designs that provide the most play value, and that reduce environmental impact through recycled materials. We are confident local children and visitors alike will love the new facilities."
