A Scout from Lyme Regis has received a bravery medal from chief scout Bear Grylls after saving his father's life.
Wilfrid Clift-Shanley, from 1st Lym Valley Scout Group, aged 10 at the time, came to his father’s aid when his father had a seizure for the first time.
Wilf heard his father, Seb, call out to him across the landing, when Wilf got to Seb he had collapsed, knocked his head, was fitting and having difficulty breathing.
Wilf immediately raised the alarm, he shouted for his sisters to come upstairs and began to put Seb in the recovery position whilst getting his sister to ring 999. Wilf was in the bathroom with Seb and they couldn’t open the door so Wilf was giving his sister all of the information so that she could relay this over the phone to the ambulance service.
Wilf stayed with Seb the whole time, removing his glasses and checking there was nothing sharp in his pockets.
Seb suffered a full seizure and was unconscious for several minutes. During this time, Wilf remained calm and practical, his sister spoke to the 999 operator who helped guide them through what to do.
Wilf continued to ensure that Seb remained comfortable and alert, once Seb had come round, Wilf was re-assuring him, encouraging him to drink water and chatting.
When the ambulance crew arrived, Wilf and his sisters were calm, explained the situation to them and handed over to them.
