A 'spellbinding' show telling the story of Devon's witch trials in 1682 comes to The Gateway Theatre in Seaton later this month.
‘HAGS: A Magical Extravaganza’ combines magic, comedy and live music while unravelling a chilling piece of history.
In 1682 three women from Bideford were accused of practising witchcraft. They were tried, convicted and hanged in Exeter. They are documented as the last people in Britain to be executed for witchcraft, ending a chapter of history that saw hundreds of innocent women sent to the gallows.
HAGS is staged by Scratchworks Theatre Company, whose co-artistic director Siân Keen said: “HAGS is a magical retelling of Devon's dark history which explores the absurdity of witch hunt mania. We blend magic tricks with storytelling, and beautiful folk music with 80s synth pop.”
HAGS will be at The Gateway on Saturday, October 28 at 7.30pm. Age guidance is 11+ - the production contains themes of death and violence against women and suggestive dialogue. Adults £13.50, Under 16s £10.00. Tickets can be booked online or by phoning The Gateway Theatre on 01297 625699.
