Honiton u3a members came together at Cotleigh Village Hall to celebrate the group’s 30th birthday on Wednesday, (August 16).

Originally known as East Devon u3a, the group was founded in January 1993. The Anniversary Tea included a raffle, a 90s-themed quiz and culminated in the cutting of a 30th birthday cake by member Gene Freemantle accompanied by the Chairman Peter Halse.

Member Peter Halse said: “Thirty years seems to have passed so quickly. But in that time u3a has grown to be a very large movement, giving so many of us the opportunity to broaden our horizons and to make new friends. Let’s celebrate this milestone and do all we can to contribute to our U3A together.”

Honiton u3a members are now looking forward to the group’s Autumn events. Members can take part in 30 activity groups, as well as attending monthly talks at The Beehive. Visitors are welcome to attend the talks, in return for a donation of £2.

The group have lots of monthly events planned including talks with interesting people, see a full line up on their website.
