Businesses in Seaton are asking for compensation from Aldi following disruption from the building site at the Underfleet.

Four Seasons has to cope with constant noise and drilling all day from the construction site. The walkway in front of their store overlooking the building is also blocking the entrance to all the stores causing people to not be able to find the store.

"We have had costumers come in and walk out again becuase they can't cope with the noise," owner Janet Philips told the Herald.

Since work began on the new store in April last year, Four Seasons say they have lost more than £1,000 in store earnings with footfall and sales in the store down.

Janet said: "The new site is affecting every business in Seaton. We have tried to contact Aldi because we want answers but we just get a standard reply 'we are sorry for the inconvenience caused', and that is not good enough.

"I'm not sure how much we can take of this. They have a total disregard of how disruptive this has been for us.

"We would like to thank all those of you who have messaged or called into our shop to offer us support during this nightmare we currently have due to the Aldi construction work happening right outside our shop.

"Apart from a standard we are sorry email from the CEO's secretary, Aldi are ignoring us and it appears no intentions of compensating us for the loss of income and stress this is causing not just us at Four Seasons but also our neighbours and the high street."

Janet is now asking for compensation from Aldi to help businesses like Four Seasons cope with the constant disruption caused by the new store being built in the Underfleet.

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “Our new store in Seaton will create jobs and provide affordable, high-quality groceries for residents. Construction is on track and in line with the planning consent given. We are doing all we can to improve access and maintain footfall to nearby businesses while work is ongoing, we apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time.”
