East Devon District Council (EDDC) is calling on residents to shop local this Christmas.
From December 1 on EDDC’s social media pages, you will see an #EastDevonly Advent calendar as the countdown to Christmas begins. Behind each day, a local East Devon business will be featured, showcasing a range of interesting businesses – from sweet treats to drinks, and cards to jewellery.
Councillor Paul Hayward, EDDC’s deputy leader and portfolio holder for economy and assets, said: "If you’re still pondering ideas for Christmas presents, then keep your eyes peeled for our East Devonly Advent calendar. There’s bound to be something for everyone.
"By buying Christmas gifts and groceries from local makers, producers and retailers, we can all make a big difference to our local businesses.
"This Christmas is going to be tough so people are looking for ways to save money. If you shop locally, you can often find unique gifts at a good price, at the same time saving on the cost of travelling, which also helps reduce our carbon footprint and protect the environment.
"Shopping locally all year round and supporting our high streets keeps those shops open and protects local jobs, as well as preserving the heart of the local community.
"EDDC’s car parking offer means people can visit any East Devon car park and spend the day shopping for only £2.00."
Local businesses who wish to be featured should join the EastDevonly facebook group facebook.com/groups/eastdevonly or email communications@eastdevon.gov.uk
