Sisters from East Devon who were part of a national rally calling for a second vote on Brexit say the country ‘voted in the dark’ in the first referendum.
Helen Preston, a job coach for people with learning disabilities at Bicton College, attended the ‘put it to the people’ march in London on Saturday (March 23) with her sister Claire, a retired teacher living in Seaton.
Thousands descended on the capital on Saturday to march to Parliament Square.
Helen and Claire, who grew up in Sidmouth, made the trip organised by Devon for Europe.
Helen, who lives in Sidbury, said: “Have we all just forgotten the enormous benefits that flow from EU membership, benefits that the remain campaign did not properly communicate to us?
“We now have a further two million young people eligible to vote and they seem to realise what a tragedy Brexit will be for their own generation.
“They need a chance to make their voices heard.
“We voted in the dark; let’s now try it with the lights turned on.”
