FIRE crews from Exeter and Ottery St Mary are currently tackling a small electric car fire in Cranbrook.

The blaze broke out at around 6.30am this morning (June 14) and crews were dealing with it until it was put out at around 8am.

The fire service are asking anybody in close vicinity to keep their windows closed due to the large amount of smoke.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue provided a first update at around 7am to say three fire engines are in attendance along with two officers.

Crew have confirmed that the vehicle is 'well alight' and has caused heat damage to a double garage next door.

They said: "We are currently using two hose reel jets, two covering jets, one water wall and two breathing apparatus to fight the fire."

At around 8am crew confirmed that the vehicle fire is now under control. They added: "Crews are at work using a post ventilation fan to clear gases in neighbouring properties."
